Changing a quartz watch battery yourself: the method

Watch batteries: the specified reference, Renata handling precautions and water-resistance checks, without a universal opening procedure.

Batteries: manufacturer guidance

An exhausted battery is one possible cause of stoppage, not a diagnosis. Check the normal crown position in the manual and have the watch inspected if it remains stopped. Use the exact battery reference, chemistry and polarity specified by the manufacturer: matching dimensions alone is insufficient. Renata requires insertion in accordance with the maker’s instructions. Renata — watch battery safety.

Renata requires exhausted batteries to be removed promptly, not only before prolonged storage. Do not touch them with your fingers; use plastic tweezers only, not metal tweezers. Avoid short circuits. Renata — watch battery safety.

Do not apply a generic opening and closing method to your watch. Have the procedure and seals specified for the model used. Do not assume water resistance after work: have it tested. Seiko recommends regular water-resistance checks. Seiko — care and servicing.
