Calibre-specific functions and instructions
Functions depend on the calibre
The crown is an external control whose functions depend on the calibre. Seiko’s manual distinguishes the normal position, first click and second click according to model; this is not universal numbering. The 7S26/7S35/7S36/4R15/4R16 do not support hand-winding, whereas the 4R35/4R36 do. Follow the calibre’s instructions, without a universal resistance threshold or prescribed number of turns. Seiko — 7S and 4R calibre instructions.
For the relevant models in this manual, Seiko prohibits day and date correction between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m.; for the relevant date-only models, the stated interval is 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. This is not a rule for the entire brand. Also follow your manual’s permitted setting directions. Seiko — 7S and 4R calibre instructions.
Do not operate the crown when the watch is wet or in water. For a screw-down crown, the manual instructs pressing and turning clockwise: engage it fully as instructed, without forcing it. Incorrect closure may compromise protection; it does not prove water ingress. Free rotation does not diagnose a fault either: have the watch inspected if in doubt. Seiko — 7S and 4R calibre instructions.
